【第148回】“Source”, Joseph Jaworski

What is leadership? Jaworski answers this question using U theory and reflecting his experiences in this book. There are many interesting implications when we think about leadership.

At first, he finds out the essence of “the bottom of the U”. At the bottom of the U, we perceive reality of the world by not determinate mind but open one. Knowing itself is based on a sense of unconditional value rather than conditional usefulness. It stresses not the result of decision making but the importance of spontaneous awareness. If you want to understand deeply, please read “Theory U : Leading from the Future as it Emerges” by Otto Scharmer(Theory U: Leading from the Future as It Emerges (Bk Business) ).

Citing some words by David Bohm, author implies that system view is matched even in the world of physics. Though we think that physicists regard the world separated into many trivial parts. Bohm says that everything is connected to everything else. And also, it is certain that there is separation without separateness. I was surprised to read this area, but also I was impressed too.

According to author, there are six essential features to enable enhanced communication with the Source. First one is “The power of Perspective” which stresses the importance of openness to alternative perspectives. Second one is “The Magic of Metaphor”. It seems to me very important that “Utilization of transdisciplinary metaphors to shift the perceived context of the task at hand from a context in which the task seems impossible to one where it is possible, even if unlikely.” Other four features are “The Role of Resonance (Love)”, “The Use of Uncertainty (Surrender)”, “The Case for Conceptual Complementarity”, and “Inner Self-Management”.

He also comments about the leadership of entrepreneurs. Through his several interviews with entrepreneurs, he concluded that they perceived in the body and mind “as a certainty” about the “thing” yet to happen. Those things cannot be found by the logical thinking but the intuitions and feelings by them. This shows the big gap between entrepreneurs and other “standard” employees.

At the last part, author suggests us to fell Source. He recommends to us spending time in nature. When we want to feel our Source, we had better spend quiet time in a natural setting. Doing this also brings us to last personal development.
